Introducing Catsronauts
As an extension of the Exotopia sci-fi storytelling project, I am presenting a new series called Catsronauts, which are space characters in future narratives. I created them in collaboration with an AI-image generation engine.
These are portraits of six of them.

Catsronauts are certainly playful and cute, playing with the use of “low culture” cat memes on the internet alongside the science of space travel.
The portraits reflect human-like characteristics, with the scared eyes of Ensign Magros to the determined and curious face of Science Officer Paw Paws to the grizzled feel that Captain Valery exudes.
Referring to the “Dogs of the Soviet Space Program” exhibition at the Museum of Jurassic Technology, Castronauts looks at the ideas of pets-in-space, speculating on imaginary futures.
Created by an AI engine with detail work by me, this work postulates a new hybrid creativity between artists and AI that simply wasn’t possible just a year ago.
